The end of the Cold War coincided with a wave of national revivals that spread across Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and became one of the notable consequences of the collapse of the communist regimes. This course will be specifically focused on the origins of nationalism, separatism, secessions, and irredentist claims in the Russian Federation and other former Soviet republics. Special attention will be paid to the Ukraine crisis.
